ho
is John Kerry? This seems to be a question on the minds of many of us
since this little known Senator became the Democratic presidential frontrunner.
His birth chart reveals that, with Sun on the Ascendant (rising), that what
you see is what you get. In other words, he wears no mask and doesn’t put
on a different "face" when in public, in contrast to his Republican
opponent. His Sun/Ascendant are in Sagittarius, significations of
honesty, integrity and a forthright personality. Usually, Sun in
Sagittarius people are jovial and fun loving but Kerry was also born with
Sun opposite Saturn and Moon besieged between the malefic planets Saturn
and Mars. This combination gives him a more serious and even
depressive demeanor and I think it makes him look "stiff,"
somewhat rigid, and reserved, as if he is afraid of rejection or being
shunned by others. The Saturn/Moon/Mars conjunction gives his voice
(Saturn rules his 3rd house) an angry edginess. However, this does not
mean that he is rigid in his politics, since half of the planets in his chart
are in mutable or changeable signs, including the Sun and Moon. The
Sun/Moon opposition (he was born on a full Moon) gives him a dualistic,
quixotic nature but without duplicity. He is someone you have to get
to know before you really appreciate who he is.
Even though I think he had a difficult childhood and adolescence
(Saturn/Moon/Mars), he is naturally fortunate (lucky) with the Sun
trine Jupiter in an applying, perfect, mutual reception (in one another’s
signs and aspected). He tends to be in the right place at the right
time and opportunities often fall in his lap. This reception, along
with Jupiter sextile Saturn, are indicators of success. Jupiter conjunct
his 9th house, Sun trine Jupiter in reception, and Neptune on the Midheaven
mean a strongly idealistic and principled nature. He is a spiritual man
but without pretense or self-righteousness, unlike his incumbent opponent.
Unfortunately, when it comes to the occupation of Iraq, our troops may
not return home any sooner than they would under Bush. Kerry has a weak
warrior signature with his Mars retrograde in Gemini, where it obtains
no essential dignity, and conjunct Uranus. This means that, though he
is rebellious, he often won’t take a stand on principle if it means
opposing those in positions of power whose approval he wants. For
example, he was opposed to the Vietnam War but fought in it. More recently,
he voted in favor of attacking Iraq and for the $87 billion to finance the war.
He also has four planets straddling the Descendant so he is easily swayed
by those in authority (Saturn), by appeals to his feelings (Moon), and
by the actions of or pressures from (Mars) others. He can be swayed,
maneuvered or influenced. He is particularly influenced by his wife,
represented by his Moon conjunct Saturn in the 7th house and by Venus
in Scorpio. She is a very significant power behind the scenes.
Now, for the question on everyone’s mind. Will he be elected president?
The answer is yes, because transiting Jupiter and Venus, the two
planets that promise winning and good outcomes, on election day are
conjunct his Midheaven in his 10th house (career and ascendancy to power).
The solar eclipse this October is also in Kerry’s 10th house
(assumption of power and authority). On election day 2000, Jupiter
squared Bush’s Mars, ruler of his 10th house and Venus was in his 5th house
of good fortune. Because Bush had these two favorable transits, he
was eventually appointed to the presidency by the Supreme Court. On
election day 2004, Bush has no such help from either Jupiter or Venus.
Additionally, Bush will be in the midst of his second Saturn return,
which often features an identity crisis (like losing the election) and it
is a time of stress when deep-seated insecurities surface. At its
worst, this can mean "getting even" with his enemies, which would
accumulate even more negative karma. The solar eclipse in October
is conjunct Bush’s Jupiter, which will bring a tendency for him to be his
own worst enemy, to be overly optimistic, and to blame his failures on
others. Kerry, in contrast, has no challenging Saturn influences
in his chart at that time. The only troublesome influence in Kerry’s
chart this year is transiting Pluto conjunct his Sun, opposite his Moon
and Saturn but this could mean that the transformation he is undergoing
is likely to include election as president.
I preferred Dennis Kucinich, Howard Dean, or Al Sharpton
over John Kerry but there is absolutely no doubt that he is exponentially
better for this country and for humankind than the current resident of
the White House.
