SATURN SQUARE URANUS REVISITED |
|
|
by Gary Brand - written January 5, 2001, published in the February 2001 edition of Echo* newspaper |

| Saturn squares Uranus every 24 years. This square was effective from June 1999 through May 2000 and comprised two of the five planets in the "grand cross eclipse" of August 1999. This month these two gas giants renew their approach to a 90° square with one another. During the first half of February 2001, the Sun, Mercury and Mars form a "T-square" to the temporary Saturn/Uranus square, thus reactivating it. Mars opposite Saturn January 29 - February 8 is often experienced as irritating and disruptive. A good spiritual attitude at this time is tolerance, minimal expectations of others and a willingness to accept responsibility for your past actions. Sun and retrograde Mercury conjoin Uranus and square Mars and Saturn February 6 - 15, making this a very challenging time. Strong desire and need for action and verbalization frustrated by pressures and stress make this difficult for even the most serene and evolved among us. Johannes Kepler (1601) said the weather associated with such aspects is thunderstorms, heavy precipitation and icy or blizzard conditions (if cold enough) that likely account for some of the frustrations of the period. After February 15, a warm-up and we can head for the outdoors to release tensions. | |

Some very significant Venus aspects are preparing us for the peak
impact of the Venus retrograde period during March and April. One
of these is Sun semi-square Venus that reached maximum intensity
on December 19 and will again on February 7. It began in December
and lasts until February 17. About one-quarter of us were born
with this aspect. Popularity with others and self-love are key
issues during this time. We want to be recognized as amiable and
pleasing. Such behavior is sometimes an attempt to seek love and
attention from others when we really need to love and be more at peace
with ourselves. Inherent in this aspect is some naiveté
about the goodness of others or the best of a situation if expectations
are too high. This is a classical "rose-colored glasses"
influence but it is also a very charitable and compassionate time, if
applied wisely. Feeling content with compromise or acceptance of
criticism is more challenging because our egos are often pitted against
our need for love. Appreciation of beauty and the arts are valued
more. Another significant Venus aspect is the trine to Pluto, normally 5 days in duration, but this time February 20 - March 24 because Venus is moving very slowly then. Personal relationship experiences will intensify and those of a difficult nature will likely reach a crisis point. Great insight about others and your relationships with them are also likely. If you begin a new romance, it will be intense, magnetic, magical, even obsessive but remember that the power you feel is coming from deep within your own psyche. This aspect is reminiscent of the mythical abduction of Persephone by Hades (Pluto) - not merely an act of domination but perpetrated because Pluto desired a wife and companion in his underworld (symbolic of the human subconscious). Ironically, Persephone and Pluto were exempt from the passions that tempted other divinities - the mythical equivalent of "I only have eyes for you." Artists can create compelling works during this time. Money and power are at issue (Pluto is Roman for riches): at its worst it means money is power, at its best it means we create our abundance. _____________________________________
